Trains-forming the place, alone again

Monday

Busy day of work but nice to look out the windows at the autumn colours on the mountains all around us.

Tuesday

Delivery guy has been and seems that both Matt and I got presents today. Matt has the new Starlink, SpaceX’s new satellite based internet connection meaning we should be able to get high quality, uninterrupted internet. I got… my replacement passport, Christmas isn’t cancelled – yet at least, there’s still time for Covid and Boris to screw it up.

Some more pictures of the colours from the garden and few flowers still left.

Meow seems to have worked out that it’s the rod that controls the toy so taken to chewing at it. With work done we need to make the most of having the scaffolding in the salon before we take it upstairs so have tasked Matt with doing some dusting while he’s up there.

With that done we could finally break it down and drag it upstairs to the bedroom.

Matt is off to London tomorrow for some tests and a few meetings so I agreed to tidy him up a bit. Not a bad job if you ask me. With that done it was time to relax and get an early night.

Wednesday

He’s leaving me again. I have to work in the morning so busy most of the day then time to make sure that he has everything that he needs and before we know it it’s time to head up to the station. After the fond farewell and waving off from the platform I got home safely.

Job one, get the kitchen cleaned up, and keep it that way.

Job two, rather larger, Matt’s workshop. Every day he complains that he can’t find something and spends at least half an hour looking for each thing. So, if I can significantly reduce the time that he spends looking for things, I should be able to equally increase how much he gets done – sorry I meant ‘how much quality time we can spend together [getting more things done].’ All joking aside however, this one is in addition to the long list of jobs I have been left and is part of Matt’s birthday present. Now that we have a joint bank account it seems more appropriate to make and do things for each other that are meaningful, he buys whatever he wants anyway.

4 hours in and I have made inroads, I’ve also however unfortunately managed to break my ring – clearly 3D printing is for short vegas style relationships, not back country France. Anyway about 12:30 I’ve had more than enough of this and it’s off to bed for me.

Thursday

Snow line seems to be suddenly dropping down the mountains around us this year. Wouldn’t be surprised if we get more snow this year than we had last year.

While I was trying to work somebody kept insisting that they could help and should be let in. Eventually I relented and let her in.

After work I needed to get going on some of other jobs on the list. First up was the pink bathroom. All the tiles need to come off and there’s quite a lot to get through. Did come across this connection behind the mirror but Matt said I wasn’t allowed to touch it so had to leave that bit. Also started to pull away around the light switches, which considering it was obviously dark, seemed like a bad idea so big sections which will have to wait for the boss’s return.

So with some progress made, and having got a bit of tile in my eye (yes I should have had sealed goggles on but I was wearing glasses) it was time for dinner. Since Matt is away I am having mussels. Then it’s back to the basement to continue work. He’s not going to be away forever and I need to get it ready for his return. I may think of it as part of his birthday present but I bet it won’t still look like this by the time that comes round.

A late night again and time for bed.

Friday

Working of course. Weather a bit more settled up at ours but you could again see the snowlines dropping down in Luchon, here’s hoping for an epic skiing year!

Back up at the house and it’s time to clear the bedroom so that we can actually work on the new ensuite.

The next job that has been high on my list for a while has been insulation and the more I see these snow lines dropping the more necessary I think it is. There’s not much point having this stuff stacked up and us not getting the maximum benefit from it. It’s not a quick job, each bit needs measuring twice, cutting once, an attempt at fitting, maybe some minor adjustment and some more fitting. About 11pm I was over it though and needed some dinner and rest.

After work it’s time to relax and the cat is very insistent, there was a very interesting notice in the postbox though.

Saturday

It’s a crisp start to the day, clear but definitely cold. Matt is back today so I can’t just spend all day in bed, I have jobs to do before he gets back. It’s therefore time to get back into the bathroom and get more of the tiles pulled out.

Before I head up to the station to collect Matt I’d best have a look around the garden.

Matt is glad to be back home but he’s exhausted, he’s been up since 5am and was out for dinner with Brandon and then partying with the kids last night. Unfortunately that means no more work on the house, and who am I to argue, I probably deserve a rest too.

Sunday

After all that slacking yesterday today we make up for it and some of the time that Matt has been away – apparently – not my idea of the best way to start a Sunday morning. First off, Matt disconnects the electrics in the bathroom so I can safely remove the tiles.

Next job is to measure up the plasterboard and get the last bits of Tonia’s room boarded up. There’s still the problem of the bricks that Tonia uncovered during her stay, so while Matt works on removing those so that we can take out the nails from the lathe out and get the new plasterboard in, I’m back downstairs to the bathroom tiles. This isn’t an easy job but Matt has made his mess upstairs and got the gap open to add the last board before he starts on the first lot of tape and join. More tiles for me.

Enough is enough and with all the tiles stripped it’s time to call it a day and set about getting some dinner.

    1. Ah… I think we have just worked out what the emojis were about. [It took a good 5 minutes] Was it the Boris/Covid comment?!
