NYD (New Years Decor)
Matt and Tonia are up reasonably early. They have been taking off the skirting boards in the kitchen to see what is behind and allow us to run the new electrics.
I go to check on progress and find that the self levelling screed in the basement was a bit of a bust. Looks like we are going to need some concrete as this has, quite literally, barely touched the sides.
We had planned to go for a walk up in Luchon today, but got distracted by the house. Having bought the towel rail the other day I was insistent that we tested the powerpoint in the bathroom. Initial good news is that the socket wasn’t faulty. Lots of double measuring and levelling and it’s in.
Not sure that it will make much difference to the general temperature of the room but I am willing to be convinced. We shall see. Matt is also researching an alternative form of double glazing to reduce the heat loss in there.
Next we head up to have a look at the first floor WC to create the ensuite for Room 1. Before we get stuck into that I hear a dripping sound. Seems as though we have a leak from the toilet above which has been dripping into the floor below so had to turn off the water to it and empty it. Seems that it was a simple seal problem so Matt has fixed it. Having looked at the bathroom we are going to need some additional parts so that we can cut off the water to the existing services. So, while we didn’t really achieve what we had set out to do. We did find some incredible hidden wallpaper.
I haven’t been sure up till this point exactly what the design for these rooms would be. To my mind however this one has now written itself. Getting the wallpaper made up may be a challenge but it will definitely be worth it and has entirely dictated the rest of the room. I couldn’t be more happy about it.
The older wallpaper beneath I think needs to be made into tiles. This is going to require some further thought and consideration. I’m not sure that it will go in that bathroom but I am sure that it will have a place here somewhere.
Not sure what Matt and Tonia are up next to but I’m off to the garden, that Helebore needs planting. I’ve checked with Monty, who’s confirmed that it is going to want some shade. Since I’d like to be able to see it in winter, Tonia helps me find a spot that is visible from the veranda. Job done and the second thing to be added to the garden = Happy Chaney
All done so an evening of TV, relaxing and, of course, updating the blog.

If you are planning on having wallpaper specially printed then I hope you have extremely deep pockets!!!
You don’t have the connections that Dick and Angel have -plus they get paid by the TV company – don’t get too carried away my lovely – you have much to do! Xxxx
You say we don’t have the connections however I have already reached out to the wonderful Rhys and he wasn’t entirely down on it – it is great having a studio manager on speed dial for a professional opinion, love you Rhys!
We’ll see how we go though, it might depend on whether we have a large enough piece somewhere to get a full repeat of the pattern. If we can’t it will become a massive job and the cost will reflect that so might be a no.
If we can get a complete repeat, then a lot of prices are around £25m2 so certainly manageable for one wall, or more if we have wainscoating on the lower part of the wall possibly.
You appear to have missed the 100kg of gravel i has got from the garage to the front of the house (on my own) to start the temporary driveway repair – whilst you were still in bed ?

Love this comment Tonia ???
Hi Chantal, I’v had a play at painting the square pattern ( from this post) for Fun, how can I get it to you so you can see? Armelle
Also have you thought about framing your wallpaper as a history of the house? It could be a big piece in one room, or small frames with all your different wallpapers displayed all together ?….if it’s not going with your furniture or future decoration, display them in the toilet maybe? 😉
Thanks! We’ve been thinking about a number of different options but not quite settled on what the right answer is yet but will certainly do something with it to preserve the history of the house
