Wheely stoked that this is done, finally

Sunday vibes were rather ruined this morning by an alarm going off downstairs. I’m pretty sure I managed to wrap it into my dreams for a good half hour before I realised it was coming from the real world.

Suspected that it might be the new CO2 alarm that I opened yesterday but it wasn’t that. As soon as I opened the door to the cellar it stopped. No smoke there and had a smell around but nothing obvious. Turned off the boiler anyway and went back to bed.

Couldn’t really get back to sleep (very unlike me), so watched some iPlayer for a bit. Finally decided it was time to get up. After all the physical exhaustion from the never ending wood pile Matt recommended I took the day off.

Had nice hot shower and decided to do something different. Maybe take the wheel for a turn around the garden. First a cup of tea and a pain au chocolate and I’m ready.

Ok, so the grass is a bit thick, long and bumpy for Alice. Will just head up to the corner to check what the bin situation is as really need to figure this out. Not great as seems it’s just for recycling.

Back to the house and figure I will have a ride up to the village.

Rural French pathways are not made for disabled people, or people on wheels, basically none of the curbs are lowered so have to get off as Alice doesn’t like big curbs.

As you can see it was pretty nice today so figured I’d best get the blasted wood finished. Best get my hand ready as it’s been taking quite a battering. My new gloves haven’t been holding up too well either.

I’m sure you’ve seen enough timelapses by now and setting it up is a pain so here’s some pics instead.

Je suis un heros! Ok, so there is still a lot of clearing up to do with all the kindling across the floor but that can wait. Now, would I rather watch Ireland v Georgia or do something in the garden on possibly the last nice weekend before it gets cold and rubbish. No point wasting time at the garden centre, although I really want some pots and start growing some basil etc. Guess I’ll just have a wander.

This is going to make a great potting shed. Lots of late afternoon sun in the winter while I prepare for the next spring.

Ooooh!! Yay!!! Just found exactly what I was going to go to the garden centre for – some pots! 🙂

Ok, sun’s almost down and starting to get cool so back in the house. Now marvel at my kitchen alter of wood!

Bit of rest and TV before I prepare dinner. [I’m sick of having to do this for myself everyday, Matt is so much better – and more regular – at this cooking, eating/feeding thing.]

Gone a bit more French this evening with steak haché, frites and petits pois. Had to ad hoc the steamer as wasn’t sure where ours was. Pretty pleased with my effort though.

Couple of bits of work to catch up on before Monday. Also have to keep the fire stoked. Reckon this bad boy ought to keep it going for a while..

My hands, arms and wrists are are so tired from wood I can hardly type so time for a break. Can you get RSI from carrying too much wood?!

Thankfully Dodd provided a reminder about the F1, so Matt has managed to get patched in for the highlights and we will watch it together. WTF that was crazy. Glad Grosjean is ok, that is a pretty 70’s style crash to walk away from. Watched the most interesting bit so time to chat with Rhucy. Can’t believe how long it was since we last spoke, nice to catch up again.

Bedtime, night all.

  1. Hang on, I recall it was all about skiing and the tour de france! Did I miss an episode? Or was the stuff about stacking wood till your hands bleed somewhere in the small print? Also I think “call Mum” is missing from the project programme. You’re welcome.

    1. Ski resorts are currently closed due to Covid, apparently the wood stacking was in the small print but I hadn’t bothered to read it – pretty sure it originally said ‘help to’ not ‘do alone’. Ah, good point but has been set as a recurring task that will never be completed.

  2. Lovely tour round your village … Bet they are hiding behind their curtains, fascinated by your mode of transport! X

  3. Can t believe you didn’t see one person. Nothing wrong with your cooking, looked delicious. Take Care.

  4. It all looks lovely but where are the people? See if there is an Emmaus centre anywhere near you. You’ll get the most amazing bargains to furnish a large house and all the profits go to housing the homeless.
There will definatly be one in Toulouse. xx

    1. Rural France, not sure people live here or if it’s just Covid?! I will have to have a look out for one of these Emmaus centres, looks as though there is one near Toulouse and one towards Tarbes. I love a bargain and can’t wait till Matt comes back to hit the brocantes, if he’s not careful I will do it before he gets back and that could be dangerous 😉

    1. Looks as though we have some poor weather on its way but has been blue and sunny almost everyday so far. Hopefully though it is cold and rainy up high so we can get some good snow when the season (finally) starts and ski resorts are able to open!
