The wrong (delivery) day

Initially woke up about 7:30am thinking I had heard a truck and in great anticipation of today’s deliveries. Far too early though so another hour’s lie in before my first meeting.

Quick call and a few emails done when I get a message from Matt: Morning… I just logged into CDiscount to see if I could track the order and it says this: “Delivery scheduled for 11/27/2020 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.”

That is not today’s date! Looks like I won’t be getting my fridge today after all and will instead have to cross my fingers that they don’t arrive during my Friday morning meetings. Also, 8am, are they serious?! It’s not even confirmed that it will be at 8am so I’ll have to get up super early potentially for nothing. Well what a day this is shaping up to be. Best get some work done so that I can free up some time on Friday for the delivery.

Time for a cup of tea and check the postbox. Addressed to Matt so probably not too exciting, most of the good stuff now comes with my name on it as requires signing for and phone calls in French.

Useful but not exciting. Looks like I can now swap over all the Google wifi extenders and reclaim the adaptors. As it was lunchtime I thought I’d have a look at the list of chores and see what fun things there are to do.

Ah, that’s more like it. ‘Trim the driveway hedge.’ A chance to get out into the garden, in the sunshine, and test out my new Spear and Jackson loppers. Ooh, those are lovely and sharp, much better than my old ones. Hedges are now looking a little tidier too, despite that I can’t reach the tops of them that is but will save that for another day. Can’t have all the fun in one day.

Probably best have a quick shower. Just getting out and what do I hear?! The buzzing of the French phone. Of course, there’s a delivery driver at the door and I only have a towel on. Dash upstairs dripping wet (typical that I’d just washed my hair too) to pull on some clothes and back down to the door. At least the note I’d left on the door worked.

Looks as thought Matt’s new desk has arrived. Might put that together this evening when I can’t do the noisy work.

Back to work and John (the fly) is back which is nice, I’d started to wonder where he’d been all morning and if he’d left already. Nice to have someone(/thing) to keep me company. He”s taken to sitting on my arm while I type which is much nicer than flying around my ear. Also had forgotten about the meeting this afternoon, glad my watch reminded me as the laptop was a bit slow on the uptake and thought I might do a few more things while I had the light and warmth.

Work done for now. Since there is no fridge delivery today that gives me a chance to remove the tiles behind where it’s going to slot in. Time for power tools!

Well that was fun. Some of the bits came of in big chunks as generally they’re all stuck together in groups.

Job done!

Off up to the top floor to start breaking through the walls. Ah, maybe not. Looks like the light switch has become a bit bunged from the hammer drill. Hmm… electrics, best call Matt for this one.

I’ve searched all over and I can’t find the ground floor fuses or fuse box. I tried all the fuses in room 1 (blue room) and in the family room linking route, none shut off the downstairs. Searched the ‘cave’ (basement) and all over the ground floor. Nothing.

Had another chat with Matt:

Matt: Maybe very gently wiggle out the ones around it to free it up.

Me: Uh, ok. But you’re staying on the phone and watching so if I get electrocuted so that someone can call the paramedics.

Matt: Mmm…. I can see the problem now it’s up close. Probably just leave that alone and don’t touch it more than you have to till I get back. Just put a bit of tape over it later when you’re ready for bed to turn them off and leave it on there. We can possibly do something tomorrow when it is light and you can kill all the power to the house.

It is now taped off and I will use the work lights after dark at that end of the room or wait till it’s light. So much for my clean kitchen too.

I didn’t get electrocuted. I think I will save the further demolition for now then and go to the shops to get dinner. I prefer pulling out of the driveway at night, as at least people slow down when they see the lights but not the car, also know in advance that they are there.

I just remembered what it is like shopping as a single Uni student – save the kindling and the bread flour.

Other bits were wine and pizza. Bottle of Brouilly was irresistible and promised a nice dinner tonight (am looking forward to some veg once we have a fridge and freezer though).

Tonia rang so had a chat with her and Muma Camp checked in which was lovely. I know Tonia loves a bit of flat pack so decided we could put the new desk together, together. Started off somewhat akin to Crystal Maze or Nightmare (if you lived in the UK in the 90’s), but rapidly stepped up as the number of potential directions and pieces decreased.

Pretty impressed, looks good, fits well and generally pretty happy. Interested to see what the wood colour looks like against the shutters in the daytime, but for now it is a job well done (if I say so myself) and another thing off the list. Thanks for the help Tonia.

Update the blog and relax for a little as it’s almost midnight here, lucky I’m still working on UK time! Quick call to Matt to say goodnight and I think it’s time for bed.

  1. I am thinking, by the time this is all over your sleep habits may have changed or would Hell have to freeze over first. You are getting up very early for you.
    Take Care

    1. Still largely on UK time due to work. Not convinced anything will make me a morning person. I love my bed too much and would sleep all day if I could
