Pre-Joobs – 30 May – 1 June
Monday
Just another day of working. Weather has been rather mixed today with a bit of sunshine and then large cracks of thunder and quite a bit of rain but still pretty warm, all good for the garden though. Lots of leftover chicken from yesterday’s roast so chicken caesar salad for dinner.

Tuesday
Lots more work. Managed to make time to deadhead some of the irises though and to plant up a couple more chillies, we are definitely going to have a lot of chilli and pepper plants this year. I just hope they flower and set fruit. The first set was just from a chilli and pepper from the supermarket so I hadn’t expected so many to germinate. The little guys I planted up today however were some Anaheim foot long chillis.

It only took a few minutes but I had to get back to the job at hand. I kept wondering why people were saying that they’d see me in a week, it’s not even June. Oh, it turns out that my launch event is exactly 1 week away, in fact with the long bank holiday it’s about two days away… Definitely time for me to get back to work!
Work done and we are off out for the evening. Yes, you read that right, we are going out on a weeknight – and for the second time in three days. It’s a god damned bloody miracle. In fact it’s actually Cressida. After a 10 years in the desert (or 4/5 weeks back in the UK) she has finally returned to our shores and has booked tickets for us to go see the new Top Gun Maverick movie at St Gaudens.
We need to be out the door quickly after work to go and pick up the Huxtables. They were ready and waiting at the end of their drive by the time we arrived (only 2 minutes late which is pretty impressive). As we drove up there was a large group of young students loitering outside the theatre – this could be awful – thankfully however I overheard them say that they were going to screen 4 and we were in screen 2, I didn’t think they’d all be there to watch a movie in English (with French subtitles). The movie was good, I shan’t say anymore. The theatre was nice, really comfortable seats (if only they had pop out leg rests – there was certainly room for it where we were), pop corn was tasty, just a shame that they didn’t also serve beer or wine (McDonalds does).
Unfortunately as it’s not yet the weekend we just dropped the Huxtables off and went back home. Time for more work emails and pizza for dinner. A quick episode of Zombies and Matt is off to bed while I quickly update the blog for today before bed.

Wednesday
It’s virtual Friday, as in it’s Wednesday but with the long weekend coming it’s the same as it being Friday. That said, as with having a holiday it rarely means less work but instead to finish a full week of work in half the time.
In the last 7 days about 80 people have signed up for my launch event next week. That now puts me at about 298, while I expect that numbers on the day will drop this last minute increase has some significant challenges and need to quickly create a second back up plan. Anyway, you don’t want to hear about my job.
Matt managed to make it upstairs to sand the ensuite ceiling and do another coat. It took a good couple of hours and he was really sweating but he’s doing a great job. Almost ready for me to step in and start painting, which will be a relief as we can then get the scaffolding out and get the fixtures back in, not to mention starting the tiling which will be incredibly exciting.
Seems that over at the Huxtable’s the miracle has finally happened and the pool liner guy has arrived. They can’t however find their hose connector to fill it up. For quite some time neither could we, Matt’s filing system is more ‘I saw it recently but no idea where’. Of course I got dragged into the search, eventually he remembered it was by the tap and so we found it just in the grass nearby. Jonny is soon over to come and borrow it but I was still working unfortunately. Finally however work was done and I could finally get in the pool and start to unwind. Although I’d best give Rhys a quick call to check he has everything he needs. Heaven forbid I’ve forgotten something and ruin Lucy’s birthday as he has to work tomorrow to get things finished, at least I could make the call from the pool.
Laps done and thought I’d give mum a call. She of course was busy and about to go out to some meeting or other. We had a catch up though and appears that she has lists of things to cover once she comes over. It seems it may be more the Spanish Inquisition than a family visit. On the other hand she is very well organised and has a lot of practice in organising weddings so probably not a bad thing, although if I can organise an event for 8 partners and >300 people from over 750miles away, 50 people in the back garden should be pretty straight forward.
Dinner time, since I’m in charge again today we need to use the full 1kg of meat. No point making food for one day – I think this is some sort of Chaney moto, I’m sure mum has freezers full of food for just this reason. I didn’t do it all for dinner this time mind. I marinated some chicken for the bbq at the weekend and then used the rest for dinner to use up the last of the roast potatoes.

Tonight’s job is to make a list of all the many jobs that need doing. It promises to be a very exciting Platy Joobs chez nous, so time for early bed and blog updates.
