Still sofa from finished

Saturday

More work getting done on the kitchen floor today as we try to make a solid push towards being able to use this space again. Matt did most of the hard work but I put some screws in. It’s important that I have something to do.

After lunch we were heading up to St Gaudens for a last bit of shopping before we have to take the car in next week. Figured that we’d stop in at Emmaus on the way just to see if they have anything and spotted this 3 seater green leather sofa. Quite similar to the two seater and armchair we have already. Tricky thing was that it wasn’t going to fit in the car so would have to drive all the way home and back again (1 hour round trip) to get the trailer. After some umm-ing and ah-ing I decided that we should just suck it up and get it. After all, it was a steal at just €35!

Quick drop into Noz and Action to see what they had. A bit disappointing as not a lot of good wine/beer to be had but Matt got a nice new bbq tool set, not that we’ve actually bought a bbq yet. Then back to grab the trailer, picking up a pair of new work boots for Matt on the way, his trainers are beyond knackered at this point.

Managed to get back to Emmaus just 15 mins before closing, that was lucky. We hadn’t really decided exactly how or where we were going to fit it into the salon with the table in there so Matt had a beer while I debated.

It’s starting to get dark but Matt’s spotted something odd going on. It seems that Meow is playing with a little field mouse who is trying to use Matt as protection. She’s definitely no stray as this little thing would have been dinner, instead when it actually ran at her she ran away like an oddly reversed game of cat and mouse. We certainly thought it was funny.

After we’d moved a lot of the accumulated rubbish we’d made enough space for the new couch and I quite like the current layout actually. Not great for visitors but then the kitchen should be ready before that’s likely to be a problem. There’s also now a nice space for playing with the Oculus which is a bonus. The unexpected trip made rather a dent in our available time though so we called it quits and just had a relaxing evening.

Sunday

Pretty proud of myself for being up before midday when the dream police stole an hour of my allotted time. Seems that with the floor mostly down we now need to remove some of the errant pipework ready to put in the first of the metal stud work.

Over lunch we discussed our relative objectives for the afternoon. Before we get started though it’s always nice to have a quick look at what plants are out at the moment.

I managed to rope Matt into helping me mark out the bed that I’ve been working on and got me to help him clear the joists from the hallway, put the plasterboard lifter in the shed, and move the scaffolding through from the dining room to the kitchen. The dining room is overflowing with stuff but I’m reticent to have to trawl things up and down the stairs unnecessarily. I’m not sure I got the best end of this deal.

With the small jobs done Matt set about starting to get the first part of the frame up on the end wall.

I on the other hand spent all afternoon clearing the grasses and weeds from the bed. It’s a pretty thankless task but needs to be done or they become overrun with weeds in no time which compete with the veg (particularly onions). By the time it was finally finished I’d lost all the sunshine and after a quick rollover with the rotavator I was ready to call it quits. Guess those onion sets are going to have to wait for another day.

It’s been a pretty labour intensive day and Matt is tired so after a glass of wine I made dinner. Well ok, it’s homemade sausage rolls, but they’re basically the same as mini pies right so we reckon it counts.
