Electrics 101

Friday

Early start, not least because I got confused about time zones as the PS is now on the continent too – it’s what all us high flyers do these days – and wasn’t sure whether it we’d agreed UK or French time.

Weather is miserable today, just wet and raining all day. Being France the post office was closed for over 3 hours for lunch and then I had a meeting but finally managed to get there to get Jeff’s birthday card sent – that should make it in time for tomorrow right!

Matt is annoyed that his hair is too long so ordered some clippers. Now they have arrived it is time for a haircut. They’re much easier than beard trimmers and was much quicker. Not a bad effort if I say so myself!

As payment, Matt has agreed to help drag the scaffolding back into the salon so that we can finally take down the seasonal ceiling decorations.

Glad that’s finally done and that they are all packed up ready to go into the attic.

In the evening we caught up with kids which was great. We stayed up specially to see in Jeff’s birthday with him.

Saturday

Had a nice lie in until Matt decided to take the multi-tool out to get the skirting boards off in Room 3, which brutally interrupted my sweet repose. It was after 12 though so fair enough. He made pretty short work of them and also uncovered some scraps of old wallpaper. It’s quite pretty. I’ll need to carefully take it off at some point, to see if I can’t see what the paper underneath is like too.

Various holes were drilled into the boards, unfortunately a necessary evil. Once they were done we were ready to start feeding the gaines through.

Matt put some more bread on to bake this morning which tasted lovely (as always). We have the bread maker in the salon now and it makes the whole room smell lovely. After lunch it’s time for a trip to Intermarche to pick up some food for tomorrow and the last bits for dinner.

Back at the house and a crash course on electrics when we opened up the fuse box. Matt: “Death, death, death, possibly ok, but still don’t touch it, as possibly also death.”

With Room 3’s power and lights done I started running the first of the two data cables. No idea how I managed to hook it up on the beams in the kitchen but couldn’t possibly have done it if I’d tried to.

Time to start dinner. Matt wanted to try out his new crock pot so we’re making pulled pork, bao buns (from a set we got for Christmas last year – it was about 11 months out of date but we figured it would be fine), pickled veg and asian slaw. It was super yummy!

Feeling quite tired after a reasonably busy day so having a relaxing evening.
