Measure for measure

Busy morning with work. Did have a shower though which was very exciting and super-hot which was amazing, the hottest I have been since I got here!

One of the jobs for the day was to update all the measurements we have of the property as the floors never quite fitted together. Seems that the kitchen is about 4cm wider at one end for starters.

Matt has successfully remeasured the kitchen which is a start. Only a few more measurements to take…

Next job, decide where to put the new electrical board [we can’t order the wiring until he knew where he would be wiring it to]. This made him very grumpy so was glad to run away back to the sanctuary of work. He’s eventually found a place in the basement which doesn’t have water pipes above it and seems to meet French norms but thought it wise to ask me. (I have absolutely no idea what assistance or help I was meant to offer but I duly looked at the wall, went “Eurr… Oui! Looks good to me” that seemed to work).

A quick lunch and time to dash up to the saw mill to see if we could get some more fire wood.

Unfortunately couldn’t find someone to speak to so Matt dropped me off while he ran some errands. Naturally of course I got back to find that the internet isn’t working. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, and moving round the rooms every but no joy. Best just wait for Matt.

[It’s incredible how little you can do nowadays when you have no internet.]

Matt’s back. Some problem with Bouygues apparently. Hotspot apparently works so that’s something – back to work. He’d also picked up a replacement handle for the door at the back of the kitchen which was exciting. That thing has been driving me up the wall. Every time you tried to open it from the hall you would scrape your knuckles or it wouldn’t open. I simply couldn’t handle it anymore!

More work… Dinner time. Pizza and wine, Tonia will be pretty happy when she arrives if we keep this up!

Amazon order: measured up about 5 different rooms while considering where Matt’s new work desk might go. Also ordered some networking stuff and some key fobs so we can label that massive heap of keys!

Next job: finalise the plans for the kitchen so we can get the units ordered and start on the real work.

Got the fridge, oven and units marked up correctly. Time for a lengthy trial and error on the island – where and how big, what’s it blocking, how much space is there to move around it, how many people can sit at it, blah blah blah.. Looks as though we have reached agreement and happy that it doesn’t encroach on the new door and that there is sufficient circulation space.

Now just need to put it into the model to get the right sized units. This is not good job to be doing late at night. Poor Matt is exhausted.

Bedtime soon!
