Planting crops – in deep winter
Probably time to start thinking about doing a few bits and pieces. After the past few days, it’s time to have a bit of a clean up around the house and start getting it back to some semblance of order. Floors swept, hoovered and mopped. Bathrooms cleaned. Salon back in order and all the rubbish bagged up. That’s better 🙂
Time for some more leftovers for lunch.
First thing we need to do is to refill the paraffin (aka kerosene) heater. These heaters (which we inherited with the house) have been super useful as they are cheaper to run that the large oil boiler but they need to be refilled daily and they don’t smell great.
There’s definitely a good smattering of snow around. It’s crisp out but that doesn’t necessarily make it a bad time to have a look again at the garden.
Having been advised by the previous owners, I have decided to take advantage of the existing concreted in posts that they appear to have used as a clothes line. These will act as supports for what will become the base for the netting to prevent wild animals stealing our veg.
I know it’s December but it’s never too late in the year to plant garlic! Considering that the British view of the French is with garlic around their necks I was amazed how expensive it is here. I’m sure it’s all very good quality but heavens. It’s also something that wants to be in the ground, in the cold, for at least 40 days. While I’m not entirely sure what type of soil we have, it looks pretty loamy and isn’t overly wet, so worth a shot; hopefully it won’t rot. I have both English and French garlic so decide to plant some of each to see how they fare.
Since we missed out on our starters the other day we have decided to have starters, cheese and desert for dinner, because we’re adults and we can!
Christmas may be over, but we still have one treat left – Matt downloaded ‘Santa Jaws’. I can reassure you that it was as bad as it sounds. It was however by no means the worst movie that Matt and I have ever watched, that would seriously be going some.

As Matt is then off to bed. Tonia and I catch up on a little Money Heist before I fold up the fresh laundry from the dryer and head upstairs to the land of nod.
