AWS conference and garden chores – 30 Nov – 5 Dec

Wednesday

On my own again, and it’s Matt’s birthday. Happy Birthday my lovely!

So, what you do you do for your significant other when they are away. Well obviously, you play with the mitre saw and try to make the pool house ‘watertight’. Well, covered, mostly. Yes, I know it looks uneven, but there are brackets etc that need to be worked around too and it fits. I worked till after the sun went down to get it painted so time for me to get inside before it’s truly dark, and cold.

A present arrived for Matt today, I can guess what it is but I guess I’d best not open and eat it before he gets back. There was also a card in the post box. Since it was Matt’s birthday Meow and I decided to celebrate. It was a bit sad without Matt being here but we did what we could.

Dinner and then bed. Meanwhile in Vegas:

Another day of testing DeepRacer models, sadly no prizes today though. In the evening AWS decided to throw me a birthday party it seems, and has invited about 25,000 people.

Thursday

It’s a very cold start to the day but starting to warm up.

Once I’ve done the bulk of my work I need to get to protecting some of the plants. First up is Matt’s Silver Fern, because I’m lovely, then to do the lime and rest of the pots. A few of them were already looking sad but hopefully this will help and I’ve also finally planted those Watsonia that Matt bought me back from Madeira.

Last non-work job of the day was to trim back to trim back more of the hedges. We’ll need to/get this done properly at some point but at least we aren’t overhanging the pubic footpath now.

Back to work. Meanwhile in Vegas:

The conference is mostly done now so just a brief wander around some of the shopping malls and hotels. They’re all suddenly in christmas mode and don’t do things by halves in Vegas.

Friday

Welcome to Friday. It’s far less exciting when you are on your own, but let’s see what I can do with it. In fact after a trip to the post box Matt has started well with an upgrade to my pink plastic ring. I also started to dry out some more petals for the wedding.

Between work I realised that I need to prepare for winter and the greenhouse mum gave me might work well as a cold frame on the veranda. I’m going to need to do something and this seems like a plan. What hadn’t realised however was how overgrown it was already. After eventually hacking it out I got it up onto the veranda. That took quite some time though so I really need to get back to work after popping to Intermarche for a super sad lunch.

After work I decided to have a closer look at some of the material I bought at Emmaus for the wedding. I’m not exactly sure where or how it will be used but I’m sure it will have one. I also randomly found my old christening bracelet. I have no idea where these things come from, but it very only just fits me still – at 39. How is this a thing?!

With that revelation, I’m off to bed.

Saturday

So I’ve had enough of being on my own and I need to share some of my crazy, notably my need for buying random rubbish. So it’s a Chan and Rane day out. Before we could start however we had a delivery for Matt. Apparently they are remotely controlled radiators for the second floor.

Off to the Troc…

I got a couple of random things for Matt but I found my Christmas present too. I immediately saw myself standing in front of it in my wedding dress. I need this mirror. You know I do.

I’m pretty sure that we have bought enough random crap by this point. I did manage to leave a few things behind at least – that little waiter guy for example. I still think however that Matt will be very happy with the random crap I bought home – who wouldn’t want the fly ashtray?!

Ooh! I can imagine standing in front of this in my wedding dress while we’re getting ready. I shall however have to consult the boss on this one as a bit spendy and quite a big purchase that I’ll definitely need some help with. I won’t be sneaking this one in.

Having done the Troc, Emmaus, Action and Noz it was definitely a day done. I’m not convinced Rane was quite ready for that level of crap, but it was good. Time to relax and head home.

Matt

Today a few of us headed off to the National Atomic Testing Museum, which was rather interesting and mildly terrifying. Then off down to see the lights of Fremont St.

Sunday

I’ve probably left at lot of these chilies a bit too long but finally remembered to go and have a look and try to rescue a few. My next job was to pot up some of the spring bulbs.

With those done I went on to clear a few more pots out, make sure that the pots on the stairs are nice and cozy and get things generally looking a bit tidier to overwinter them. Hopefully all the mulch will protect them over winter and provide some well needed nutrients for a good display next year.

Time to start tidying up and getting ready to out as I have a dinner invitation this evening at JC’s. Being that I’m driving myself this evening I’m parking up at the Marie and walking down from there as there’s no way I’m tackling their driveway. They do however have a huge big christmas tree which takes up most of the car park and made it far more difficult to park than I’d anticipated. It was worth it though for the amazing company and good food.

Time to head home but I’ve had a lovely evening, Meow was glad when I got home though and didn’t seem put off by the smell of dog.

Monday

Busy day working and getting ready for the return of the traveller. He’s not getting in till very late so going to be a long day. Matt has been doing some last minute shopping and seems he’s got a lovely new coat to wear home.

Unfortunately it seems that Matt’s flight has been delayed so even more sitting about. Not exactly ideal when he wasn’t landing until 23:30 and now it’s going to be closer to midnight by the time that I collect him.

Eventually we got home around 1:30am. Ugh. Time for bed!
