Let the insulating commence – 8-17 August
Monday
Matt is coming home today which I’m rather excited about. I’ve got lots of work to do though and keen to get as much done as possible before he comes home so we can spend some extra time together. Dinner was the last of the defrosted lasagne that mum had made – thanks, it was delicious!

Matt’s on a late flight though and it also seems that it’s been delayed a bit. Great. Anyway, off to the airport I go and quickly to bed when I get home. Matt however did have the excitement of finally going on the Elizabeth line and a nice sunset.

Tuesday
We’re pretty busy with work this week catching up after all the visitors so not a huge amount to report.
Matt helped to put the top onto the arch to support the jasmine to grow up and over it – because Arches are fancy as f**k! The house is also looking particularly tropical from this angle. Then a bottle of fizz to celebrate his return home and a good cuddle up on the sofa. I do like to lounge across the sofa but he does make a good pillow too, even the cat thinks so, she was was very glad he was home.

Wednesday
Busy day of work and then in the evening we decided it was time to dismantle Brandon’s remote working station and get Room 1 back to ‘working[/DIY]’ condition.

Matt has been working on his DeepRacer training server. The cat however is just rolling around in the dirt as she’s an idiot.

Thursday
Leaves, leaves and even more leaves in the pool today. The wind has been wild and as soon as we clear them the pool’s full again. Also looking at all the ground that will need to be repaired back to the pool house but that can wait, there’s still more work to do, lengths to be swam and a million other things to do.

Oops, all that wind and it seems that one of the covers wasn’t properly secured on the cabana and it ended up in the pool. Meow took it all in her stride though, clearly her servants will deal with this. We also had a rather large, and naturally hugely expensive, delivery of insulation. Hopefully it will start to pay for itself quickly as we need to add a lot of this and it’s going to be a lot of work. May the house be warm and the weather be perfect for skiing!

Friday
Busy working. Considering options to look at the outside of the pool house and we do have some of the old plastic we have. We’re also going to have to make some casing for the pipes eventually – before winter to ensure nothing bursts.

Tortilla for dinner and my favourite mad dog, Woody.

Saturday and Sunday
A very relaxing weekend, sleeping in late, swimming and playing in the pool. A brief downpour and then it’s all clear again. It’s all been a bit crazy recently so was nice to just put our feet up and relax. We finished off the weekend relaxing on the cabana as night fell.

Monday
Back to work. This afternoon however we managed to grab some time to start to make the new arch to go in the garden ahead of the wedding. First job was to cut the old steel reinforcing mesh that we’d pulled out of the kitchen a long time back. It didn’t go quite to plan as for some reason the blades kept breaking with one very near miss as a piece went flying off it. I decided to retreat somewhat further as that was a bit close for comfort. With the lengths cut we could then reattach them to create a large flexible archway. Unfortunately however that was as far as we could get with that job as I’d need to direct where it went and it needs at least two people holding onto it so it’ll have to wait for our next visitors.

The other job that needed doing was to bring in and stack all the new insulation. It was pretty light but there was quite a bit of it, all nicely stacked in Room 1.

Tuesday
Matt’s been very busy today working on the framing of Room 3 and I went to help with the insulation. It’s rather annoying doing it between the metal as they are designed to lock together. We therefore have to cut off the protruding piece to then put it back in on the other side so that it doesn’t have gaps. The insulation is also thicker than the metal so additional pieces need to be cut to fit inside the metal. It’s a lot of faff!

It’s soon getting dark though so that’s enough for one evening, not least because there’s no lighting in Room 3 currently. Time for cuddles with the cat.

Wednesday
Matt has been 3d printing parts for his server.

Quick trip over to Spain in the evening to pick up some supplies, but while doing so I noticed a horrendous crime against humanity – 0% Tanqueray Gin, what on earth is the point of that?!
