VIPs Await.. – 28 Jun – 1 Jul
Tuesday
The pool guys are back which is great news. We appear to have the B-team again today as they don’t seem to be overly confident in what they are doing but they’re here and they’re getting it done so I won’t complain, unless there’s a problem when they’re done of course.
After work I was back in the garden and the sunflowers are loving being in the ground, look how big the leaves are! The ones in the tiny pots however clearly need to be planted up as they are looking very sad in comparison and I need to get them into something bigger. I still want them in pots though so I can put them around the pool once the terrace is finally finished.

Of course with the potting up I’ve got a whole heap of pots that need a wash before they go back into storage for next year. I’ve hardly touched the sides at this point but at least it is a start, Monty would be proud (although less so if he saw the rest of the stack I presume). I was pleased to be making good use of my new outdoor sink though. The sunset this evening was also beautiful.

Wednesday
It’s a busy morning and the B-team are back, after struggling with the corner it’s not looking like it’s going to be done before the weekend as expected which is a concern. We know that France does largely start to shut down over July (before completely shutting down for all of August) so have to keep our fingers crossed.

I’m taking the afternoon off to start getting the first floor tidied up and ready for the next round of work and the highly anticipated visit from the Mayor at the weekend. Unfortunately, as with any job, I went to start clearing the hallways and found that in order to do that and put things away properly I’m going to have to start by clearing up Matt’s large workshop.

Now onto the big job of tackling the hallway. Matt is hugely busy today so it’s up to me, but it will be a nice surprise for him to see it all done when he finishes work. Really did take a lot of time though. At least I’ve now sorted all the tiles and wood and it’s looking so much bigger. I can’t remember the last time it looked like this. I’ve also cleared most of Room 4 so that’s also looking good.

Back downstairs and it seems that Meow is playing with a bird; we really struggled to get it off her and I’m not sure it’s going to survive unfortunately, but she is a stray and a trained hunter, we can’t stop her doing this. There’s some nice mirabelle plums hiding away in the hedge which are super tasty. And, it looks like there might be something exciting coming up in the village, at least worth a look.

Thursday
Super busy with work today, Matt has been trying to work out how to fix the strimmers, I’m not sure how successful he was, I think not. Parts have been ordered. Apparently the cat is also trying to stop me working too late.

Friday
Still have to work today but again the pool is coming along. Unfortunately however the promise that it would be done before the Mayor comes is definitely not going to be fulfilled.
After work it’s time for some garden duty. Matt is keen that we get one of [not sure what tree this is] the trees tied back up. It clearly used to have lines on it pulling it together but these are long gone, it flowers beautifully but we need the space at the back to drive the mower through and it looks scruffy. He’s also been inspecting a rather large wasps nest in the ground not too far from our terrace which is going to need some attention.

Meow has hunted out a vole and is playing with it in the garden, she does love a good vole and they’re pretty good for her in terms of dietary mix; we certainly don’t feed her as much as you would a normal house cat and we like that we can go away for a few days and she can totally feed herself. She’s also been pretty hard at work today as safety officer, inspecting all the equipment, and been playing with a rather huge stag beetle – it’s very busy day for the Madame Meowselle.

After dinner we need to go and get the room ready for the VIP who is about to arrive. She’s already on her way…
