House-a-versary – Year 1!

Monday

It’s a busy day at work but managed to convince Matt to get on with a bit more work on the framing afterwards. Ok, so it wasn’t a great deal further on but the external wall is now done. Still plenty more here to be done as we currently only have the cold water feed and still need to run power to the room. It was as much as I could convince him to do this evening though but progress is progress.

Tuesday

So today is our house-a-versary, we officially got the keys and moved in 1 year ago today! As a treat, and due to us being almost out of fuel, Matt has promised me a trip to Spain to celebrate. Of course the problem with this is that we are ‘between seasons’, and it’s Tuesday. As such there really wasn’t much open, but we did have a little look around a couple of other interesting ‘side villages’ and eventually had to resort to the slightly weird diner thing. Sadly the lamb was a bit disappointing compared to the last time (even more so since I ordered it this time instead of Matt) and the chicken was only half what we had before, it was still pretty tasty though.

We had however managed to pick up a couple of bottles of wine to start stocking the cellar. Since we’ve had a nice time out and some champagne when we got home I decided that Meow also deserved a treat to celebrate our first year (even if she didn’t turn up till a bit later). She seemed to love it.

Wednesday

So it’s an important ‘day off’ today, as in we aren’t ‘officially working’. Today we are off to Tarbes to collect bathroom items – yay. While we were there we also took some time to look at some possible worktop and flooring options. There’s definitely a few here that could work.

After a bit of work when we got back I went back upstairs to work on the bathroom and scraped my hand so figured it was time to give up for the evening.

Thursday

With the plumber due in the not too distant future we need to ensure that we have everything ready. It’s a busy day but our bath has finally arrived which is great.

The next job over lunchtime is to get the radiator ready to go back on the wall in the kitchen. We’re going to need all the help possible to get a bit more heat in the house and there’s no better place to start than the one with some insulation.

Matt’s pretty busy, as such I figured it was time to do another of the jobs he’s never going to get round to. Clearing up the cut wood into a useful pile so that it doesn’t just rot into the ground,[it’s free fuel after all and looking at the cost of boilers free heat is basically like gold – it is here anyway.] Having finally completed the pile, just as I walked off to the backdoor the whole thing collapsed – Mother F&£^ers! Round 2 looks more stable though.

The last bits of summer need to go away so time to clear up the fire pit and garages. At least one of us keeps our shed nice and tidy, his is a mess!

Now that Matt has finished work it’s time to get that new bath upstairs. Turns out that these new modern baths are a fraction of the weight of the old ones and it goes up the stairs with limited problems. Now time to discuss exactly where it will go – need to consider weird things like the overhang in front of the door and where the pipework will come in from the ensuite next door – all of these will affect the placement and if we need to cut holes for the pipes – eek?!

With all the outside jobs done Matt’s finished work and so it’s time to get Matt’s new table saw out of the dining room and into the basement. Of course he needs my help, I’m the expert instruction reader and passer of parts [and he won’t get round to it unless I stand over him.]

Ok, hopefully the final job of the day but I it’s time to get that new £300 cupboard in! [We’d never have spent that much on it if we’d known but with the series of events this is what we have and it is going to be in.]

That’s as far as I can get him for one night but it’s looking good and we’ve progress. Onward and upward.
