What a rubble

Friday

Pretty standard Friday with plenty of work. Matt has been out on the mower this afternoon to cut the meadow, it looks so much better now it’s tidy again.

Matt has been off to check the heating oil levels before we go back into winter and seems that having disconnected the central heating makes quite the difference. Anyway, it’s still warm so time make the most of it with a dip after work. Not sure what Matt was up to but looks as though he ought to be serving drinks.

Heard a mouse in the cupboard but looks as though Meow is on it as she appears to have settled in the armoire. Maybe we will let her stay in the house tonight in the hope that she will finally catch some of the mice that she has bought in.

Saturday

Super exciting trip to Super-U to get a filing cabinet. The French love to send everything on paper so we’re going to need it. Also popped into Rural Master. I don’t recall what Matt was doing but I was looking at sinks and bathroom bits.

A small but lovely harvest from the garden gave us some lovely crudites and snacks. Can’t beat a bit of tomato and mozzarella.

While we were on the veranda however I spotted what looked like a very large flying ant carrying a grasshopper – seems it’s a Grass-Carrying Wasp that puts it into the nest for the larvae to feed on when they hatch. The weird things you learn from reading this blog eh.

Meow is looking very comfortable this evening

Sunday

Off to the Vide Grenier [car boot sale] up at Barbazan today to see if there’s anything good. There were some nice old wooden skis that would look great on our wall but they were a bit too expensive unfortunately. Nothing else much of note and started to drizzle so time to head home.

Back at the house it was time to make some more progress up in Tonia’s room. While Matt cracked on with that I moved into Room 7. Glad I was the one working on this as there was a hidden wire and Matt’s a bit more gung ho than I am. Dirty work too with many years of dirt, dust and whatever else. Sadly also found a dead bat in the rafters and some sort of nest of something, who knows what though?!

Finally dinner time and Matt’s testing out the new deep fat fryer while I make some nice prawns.

Tuesday

Plasterers were back today and have finally done the large wall. Unfortunately however it seems that they thought there was a drain at the side of the house. It is not so all the water they put in the hole ended up in the basement and I had to dig out the plaster. Thanks for that!

Wednesday

Big delivery this morning. 2 pallets of insulation for the top rooms. Thankfully they are much lighter than they look. With all the rubble and rubbish we’ve been creating up there we also have to go to the dechetterie today to get rid of it. We learnt from experience that leaving bags out in the sun, rain and snow makes them disintegrate.

A few good pickings from the garden today. I love seeing the tomatoes looking like traffic lights.

Finally planted up a fern that we’d had this evening too which was good, hopefully it will take and be happy.

Thursday

It’s mum’s birthday! Matt and I celebrated with lunch on the veranda and even Meow got a treat.

Rang mum and had a good chat, was very sorry that I couldn’t be there with her. Since she usually has a BBQ on her birthday we thought we’d get in the mood too.
