Things are looking up
Another day that I am up earlier than expected (no, that doesn’t mean early, just that Matt has well adjusted expectations.) Once I am up we head into the kitchen to carry on with the task at hand, putting the new suspended ceiling in.
Matt has spent a lot of time up and down the scaffolding marking, drilling and attaching the rods I made and then adding the rails.
I spent my time doing the washing up and cleaning, the: halls, kitchen floor, surfaces and even getting rid of the pan of fat left over from Christmas! Our current answer, at least during winter, is to get rid of old furry meat by placing the pan outside away from the house and letting the fox (or whatever) come and eat it. The fox needs food in winter and it saves having rotting meat making the bin smell as well as preventing it go to landfill. I’m stunned by how big the sideboard looks, it hasn’t been this clear since we got here – half of it is usually covered in tools, as well as all the other stuff.

While I had a few minutes I put together the new bird feeder. It was pretty simple. Not to see if the birds like it.

Next job was to find the old ceiling rods. I found 8 of the previous rods that I put away but we have no idea where the two Matt had are. I went to start dinner, the turkey escalopes are due to go off tomorrow but the pack is a little puffed and a slight smell so after not being able to Google the answer easily I rang mum.
Seems it’s fine, just cook them today rather than freezing them – good point about time to freeze and unfreeze. Matt decided to help with dinner – he was clearly sick of doing the ceiling. It’s not easy working constantly above your head and without a hot tub to relax to afterwards!
One episode of TV followed by some nice evening showers and Matt’s off to bed. I stay up to write today’s blog before I head up.

That ceiling is looking brillant. A work of art. Shame it is going to be covered up.
Thanks. It’s been quite the labour but should now last for ages!!
Was the original high ceiling not good enough to use??
The ceiling was inconsistent – it looks as though it used to be two rooms. We also need to add a heap of new cables and wires, including for the floor above. This saved trying to match the two up, trenching the cables into the ceiling, and also has given us space for insulation. Previously it was lowered by c.70cm; we’ve only lowered it by 25cm so it’s still 3.5m high which is plenty high enough.
Ceiling is coming on well xxx
What a lot of work, you two are amazing! Well done! ?
