Joyeux Noel a tous!
We’d set a get up time of 10am for Christmas day and I think we pretty much made it – well Matt and I certainly did, Matt was up earlier of course!
It was all looking pretty grey and overcast but with the promise of snow hanging in the air. Matt was on breakfast duty, eggs and bacon, fried for him and boiled for me. No sign of Tonia quite yet though.
In traditional Camp family style, Matt has made Christmas morning margaritas.

I’ve been out to the compost heap and it is definitely snowing, it’s super light but it’s fluffy, not wet. Joelle is in early requesting a call as the kids want to open their presents. Really great to speak to them. It seems much calmer this way round as everyone is going at their own pace. But at their request we are onto the first of the presents.

Tonia is very excited to show us her gift – all her work up on the second floor. It is looking pretty good though and it seems that she did spend half of last night/this morning up cleaning it.
A short while later and we’re onto our first course, vol-au-vents. There was definitely a mixed reaction to this one… which was thoroughly expected!
We were about to start cracking on with the main course and arranging times for our call with Mum, Jim, Cole and the kids. We then realised that we didn’t actually have to have lunch straight away, there was nobody else waiting on us and we weren’t actually hungry.
Another lovely call with the family, surprisingly much louder than I expected. They seemed to enjoy their presents though and we got some great things too!

Since we weren’t so hungry yet, we thought we’d make the most of the fact that it was snowing and Tonia could join us for a Christmas walk.
Back and it is time to prep lunch.
We were so busy making it we forgot the starters and the yorkshires! The peas also didn’t make the cut. There was more than enough food though so we weren’t going hungry.
HAHA! Oopsie daisy – Tonia appears to have somehow broken the pepper grinder all over her meal. That’ll be crunchy.
Yep, plenty to keep us going for a few days…
We’ve been quite slow on the presents with no kids and family to push us through them at pace. Matt doesn’t seem overly impressed that he wasn’t allowed to open this present earlier, given that we bought new pans 2 days ago but in a house like this we can never have enough.
We watch the queen’s speech which was less exciting than I’d hoped but apparently exactly as exciting as Matt expected, the channel 4 deep-fake one wasn’t so great either. I’m pretty excited however to have finally got a new sewing machine for Christmas. Fingers crossed Doug, you may finally get those masks!

As I was tidying up I saw this and it largely summed up our 2020 – masks, scaffolding, alcohol and cooking.

Once we are done we settle in with some drinks for the evening and give the kids a call. Seems we can’t get hold of Rhucy – no idea what they are doing that is more exciting and interesting than us – but the others are free. Was great to see Lee, Vicky, Jeff and Vivian. We even started to play Monopoly. It didn’t really work so well remotely so gave up eventually but we had fun.
It was pretty late so we finally went to bed.

Last night was later than planned what with chatting to the kids so we were in no rush to get up. We’d also preempted the traditional ‘boxing day walk’ by doing it on Christmas day so that one was ticked off already.
Matt was up first, no surprise there. I was going to enjoy another episode of Doctors before I got up, but instead drifted in and out of sleep to some other BBC drama. Hunger eventually got the better of me though and decided to get up.
Matt has obviously already had breakfast so we are into leftovers for lunch. My eyes were much bigger than my belly. I had put a bit of everything on my plate though. Half of it had to go back into the fridge.
Not feeling up to much today so we just spend the time relaxing and doing very little before we head back up to bed.
