Hung, drawn and quarantined
It’s a reasonably late start today after yesterday’s decorating and celebrations. I woke up when Matt got up but decided to treat myself to a couple of episodes of Doctors. Meanwhile, Matt is down in the basement dismantling more of the ceiling and creating quite the pile of rubble.
Brackets up in the salon, followed by some careful manoeuvring into SaM to take down the curtains, then back to the salon to put them up. And the job’s done. Hopefully that will help reduce some of the heat loss and any drafts.
They seem to have this in hand so I’m off to work on my own little project. We’ve been keeping our coats in the hallway cupboard, which is fine, but some of my other coats would benefit from being hung up. Since I have some time, I might get that done.
Once thats done its time for lunch. While I baked the camembert Tonia’s emptied the larder in the kitchen for me so that I can finally get it sorted out. After dinner I set about reorganising it and returning things back to the cupboard. It’s been driving me nuts so glad that little job is done.

Tonia is off up to Room 7 to do some more work on breaking the beams out of their boxing. It took her much of the day but she’s really cracking on up there which is great news! Couldn’t ask for more from the little bee 🙂
So far I am starting to feel that all we ever do is dismantle this house. I have to keep reminding myself that we have to do this so that when we start to add new layers they will be all the more beautiful and, most importantly, last a long time in good condition.
Oh, finally something being added to the house. Matt’s turned his attention the temporary lights in the kitchen so that we can take the ceiling down and find out exactly what is underneath it.
There is a minor hiccup however as he appears to have drilled the holes so that the lights are 90degrees off where they should be. I think you can tell from the look on my face that this temporary solution is not going to fly and he will need to drill another hole.

Job done though and they look fine for now.
While the two of them are distracted doing their work, I get started on the blog updates. I’d tried to do one yesterday but just wasn’t feeling it so gave up. Today is much better though, that’s Wednesday’s update written and Thursday’s started.
Traditional trip to Intermarche needs to be completed. The little worker bee seems to be quite happy in the attic so we’ll leave her there while we get supplies to get us through to Monday. Maybe once we have the new kitchen done we might consider having enough in the house to last more than 2 days?! It’s not something that we ever really did in London but it does seem that it would save on petrol and just general going out. On the other hand it is the only time we really go out (for me anyway – Matt can’t go more than a couple of days without his trip to Luchon and the bricos).
Back home and it’s definitely time to put the fire on and start dinner. Tonight we are having spaghetti carbonara. Yum!
After dinner we move the table and chairs etc into the salon. The idea is to now continue to heat that room so that we have somewhere nice to spend Christmas.
There’s still lots of planning to be done so lots of looking at spreadsheets, writing emails etc to while away the evening, and finish the Thursday blog of course. Afterwards there’s a little time for some wine, TV and off to bed.
Well you all seem to be working hard. Not sure what you are going to do in room 7 where Tonia has been exposing the lathe and plaster old walls! Had you hoped they were going to be proper beams ? It’s difficult to see exactly what they really look like xxxx
There are proper beams underneath, they are just covered in that lathe and plaster with the gaps covered up. They are like the ones in the ‘sauna room’ – Room 8. They’re going to need some serious sanding and cleaning up but they’ll come back beautifully.
